Srinagar 26 July : Police and security forces on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a “hardcore” Over Ground Worker (OGW) with arms and ammunition on an intervening night of 25th and 26th July in Wopazan village of south Kashmir Anantnag district’s Bijbehara area.
As per the news agency CNS, a police spokesperson said that a joint cordon and search operation was carried out by Army’s 3 RR along with Police in the area of Wopazan, Bijbehara, leading to the apprehension of a “hardcore” OGW with one Chinese pistol, two magazines and 14 Chinese rounds.
The operation was carried out after specific intel was received regarding the presence of unidentified militants in the Wopazan village of Bijbehara, the spokesperson said.
“The operation commenced at approximately 2035 hours on the night of 25 July wherein during the conduct of search at 2105 hours the suspect (person) started to flee but through excellent coordination and control displayed by the security forces and JKP, the individual was apprehended and frisked. He was then found to be in possession of a pistol and live rounds,” said the official.
The arrested person has been identified as Liyakat Ahmad Ganie (24) son of Lateef Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Banpura Mohalla, Wopazan.
Following his arrest, a case FIR no. 175/2023 under sections of 7/25 IA Act 20, 39 ULAP Act was registered at Police Station, Bijbehara and further investigation was initiated. (CNS)
